Another week, another dress... well it seems that way. I made this dress to wear to a friend's fundraising trivia night on Saturday night. I didn't realize it was an outdoor event, but luckily it stayed reasonably warm and I may have also benefitted from wearing my champagne coat (a slightly more ladylike version of a beer coat.) lol!
I made a straight size 10, which is my standard Vogue size and one size smaller than my actual measurements. I find the ease in big 4 patterns is always overly generous and I don't need four and a half inches of ease around my bust in a shift dress, three is fine.
Liberty Ceasar from Shaukat for the main dress and cotton rayon lining from The Remnant Warehouse to line the dress. I actually went back to the Remnant Warehouse just to buy more of this lining as it is so lovely to wash and wear.
I used a very scant cut of Liberty for this dress. With only 1.2m to play with, there was no room for error! I really need to stop being such a fabric tightwad...
As you can tell, I love this dress. It skims the body perfectly and is not sack-like at all. So yay! A big win on this one.
Sadly though, this dress followed a very a time consuming and disappointing sewing fail. I spent most of Thursday night and my Friday spare time, sewing up a dress that I knew from the outset, would be a sewing fail. I am an optimist though, and hoped that a miracle would occur once completed and it would transform into an amazing dress. Alas - no miracles for me!
Oh well, I still have one satisfying make from this weekend!
Happy Monday friends!
