Lace Bubble Dress

My brother is getting married next weekend. I think this might be the last wedding that we'll be invited to as all of our friends are already hitched (well until they started getting divorced and remarried), so I'm incredibly excited about it. I love going to weddings! The dressing up, the parting, all of it! So despite my packed wardrobe, I chose to make new special dresses for Adele and I.

I've made the Oliver and S bubble dress at least 10 times and I dare say there will be another. I think it's one of the best, if not the best little girls dress pattern ever. The fit is perfect, the pattern well drafted and the dress is finished beautifully.
The kid is such a poser now!

This lace was purchased from The Fabric Store last year during our first Sydney Sewing catch up. I intended to make myself a tank with it, but I think this is a far better use for the fabric. I'm not a big fan of pink and like when Adele wears non-pink garments to contrast all the other little girls.
Even though I've made this dress many times, this one did take quite a few nights to finish. The lace had to be underlined and then the dress is lined (with white rayon from Lincraft),  so there is three layers of fabric on the dress. With the very sudden change of weather in Sydney, this will work in Adele's favour.
The buttons are vintage from my stash and the ivory satin ribbon makes it a little more spesh. I've even splashed out on new silvery shoes for the kid and the cardigan is a never worn one from her wardrobe that I think I purchased for her christening. When else do you dress a mucky girl in white?
She's very happy with her new wedding dress. I think she'll be devastated on the day when she realises the day isn't all about her and someone else will be wearing a far more special white dress!!

Hopefully I'll photograph my dress later today.

Happy weekend friends!

  4. Just beautiful! I had this pattern set aside to make Ella a dress for my brothers wedding, but he would not allow kids at his wedding so I didn't get to use it :-(
